Russia and Central Asia

This is a very new and exciting region for World Ministries to be involved in.

It is very important that we maximise the opportunities that are presented to partner with the developing church in these nations.

If you have a particular burden or interest in this part of the world then please contact World Ministries through this website.

Russia

Russia is the largest country in the world, covering almost over twice the territory of the next sized country, Canada.

It has the world's 8th largest population of over 140 million.

It encompasses 11 different time zones.

Russia is making the most of its energy resources to experience economic resurgence and renewed influence on global issues.

The Russian Church needs sensitive partnership with the West to allow it to discover a stronger identity.

Did you know that within Russia there are other Stan peoples? - Dagestan, Tatarstan and Bashkotorstan.

Caucasian Region

This is a region in a continued state of flux with additional territories seeking to gain independence as countries.

The main countries in this region are Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Armenia and Georgia have strong historical links with Christianity. Armenia borders with Turkey and Iran.

Azerbaijan is predominantly Muslim. The majority of Christians in Azerbaijan are Russian speaking.

Stan Republics

There are 5 Stan nations that gained independence from Russia in the nineties: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan & Uzbekistan.

They are nations that are largely forgotten in the West and have not had significant missional focus.

After their independence from Russia they have reverted back to a Muslim identity.

Kazakhstan is larger than the entirety of Western Europe.

All the Stans have significant energy reserves and this means that important neighbours such as Russia and China have a keen interest in the development of the Stans.

Currently the Central Asian region has been detrimentally affected by a very harsh winter and this has led to deprivation and sufereing by the indigenous people of this region.

There are millions of unreached people in this area that have not rejected the Gospel, they have not yet had the opportunity to hear and respond!

It is estimated that in Central Asia there is currently just one church for approximately every 364,000 individuals.

Please pray for the Stan nations - we need to raise the mission profile of these nations.
