World Ministries in association with Mattersey Hall College offers you a unique opportunity. Each year an intensive, residential missions programme is available to you in order to prepare you to better serve the cause of Christ in our diverse and exciting world.
THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU
The School of Missions is especially designed to train all those with an interest in participating actively in worldwide evangelisation.
- Candidate Missionaries. If you are thinking about a life-time of Christian service to those in other cultures or if you have already begun the process of applying for a missionary position this course is definitely for you. Designed as a pre-filed training programmes, the SOM will help equip you for cultural entry, introduce the importance of language acquisition and sharpen your abilities to communicate across cultures.
- Those involved in ministry within multicultural contexts. With rapid globalisation taking place there are very few places left anywhere in the world that do not have a mixture of races and cultures. This course will be of great help to those who might never leave their home town but have a desire to more effectively reach minorities and people of other cultures who have now become their neighbours.
- Mission leaders and coordinators. For those involved with mission leadership either at organisational or local church level this course is sure to be of great help. Learn the importance of creating sustainable support mechanisms, providing meaningful resources to those in missionary situations and how to more effectively mobilise your donor community.
- Those involved in short term missions. There have never been better or more opportunities for local churches to be mobilised into short term missionary service than today. However, the opportunity also creates challenges. This course will provide very meaningful insight on how best to coordinate short term mission programmes and so gain maximum benefit from them.
PRACTICAL AND INSIGHTFUL
The School of Missions is committed to providing inspirational, practical and yet very insightful training to those who invest their time to attend. Combining the insight of veteran missionaries, mission leaders and the teaching faculty of Mattersey Hall, this course stands alone in what it offers.
- Mission principles and issues will be dealt with transparently and honestly in an effort to prepare you to be more effective in meeting the challenges of 21st century mission.
- Cultural issues such as an introduction to cultural anthropology, cross-cultural communication and cultural entry are central to the training programme.
- Ministry issues such as church planting, the personal life of those involved with mission, friend raising and the importance of home church relationships are included in the course.
- Theological issues including concepts such as dynamic equivalence, the biblical foundation of mission, the role of the Bible translator, other world religions and cross-cultural theologising are dealt with in an open and interactive way.
Although short in length, this course will give you the foundations to become a life long learner, a sensitive missionary and a more effective communicator.
